The second annual Design the Modern Board Competition took place on March 27th at the DWR Studio in Denver, CO. 41 designs from artists throughout Colorado were entered into the contest and over 200 came out to support the event. All proceeds went to SOS Outreach which is a Colorado nonprofit organization focused on getting at risk youth participating in wintersports. Along with music from DJ's Sharp Shooter and Guy the guests were treated to appetizers and cocktails from Hapa Sushi and Vodka Fourteen. The event was a great success and raised awareness for SOS Outreach while generating funds to aid their programs.

The contest challenged both aspiring and professional graphic designers to submit their own original designs for a snowboard. Although the caliber of all designs submitted was high only 3 winners could be chosen:

First Place - Lucas Oxotegny
Second Place - Leonardo De La Rocha
Third Place - Melissa Kendrick

Along with being an event sponsor K2 Snowboarding will be building a board for the 1st place winner using their design. The 2nd and 3rd place winners will each receive a top sheet showing off their winning designs. Thanks to all who came out to support SOS Outreach and their efforts to give more youth the opportunity to experience the great sport of snowboarding!
Summer is approaching and winter is ending. May not feel like it where you are..buuuuut it is, and High Cascade is filling up quick. So, if you want to spend your summer shredding, hanging with some pros, eating Cobra Dogs, skating the Govy Parks, and basically having the time of your life you best go straight to High Cascade Snowboard Camp and sign up. Plus, if you sign up for Session 3 (July 6-14) we will be there to hold it down for Gretchen's Signature Session and Session 6 (August 7-14) we will be kickin' it with Miss Pelosi for some off the wall funness.

And if you don't believe me on how fun it is just take it from Jake Hayes , the 2007 design a board contest winner {pictured below}:

"...basically hcsc is the sweetest camp in the world. It was so ill, then during the 3rd sesh i got the template for the design a board contest; took it back to my chalet and spent a good time thinking of an idea. Then week came up and during the awards they announced me and this girl won. I was so stoked, probably the greatest week of my life; throwing cake at the grenade store, meeting Lil John. it was so tight. Then when i got the one of a kind board from K2 it was even sicker than the drawing. All my friends are jealous and when im cruisin on the slope everyone (is) gonna be looking at my board."

....continued from Post 2/3

Right about 7 AM everyone was woken up by the sound of Avalanche bombs echoing off of our RV's. I somehow ended up
in the wrong RV following the Rocker Party, which seemed a semi common theme among others, and emerged to see a
few left over Rockstars roaming the parking lot, fresh snow lining the ground, blue in the sky, and the last full day of Kamp K2 among us.

For some a little extra sleep was needed. Skylar Thornton feeling the PBR love and a view of Mt. Shuksan.

To tell you the truth I have pretty much used way too many words to explain this event as is. The day was more than we could've asked for. There was great snow, good friends, and another party to look forward to for the evening and the whole event could be wrapped up in one word....AMAZING, and well fun. Okay that's two words....oh wait how about unforgetable. I guess there's lots of words I could use. Anyway, just watch this video.....go snowboarding......enjoy life.

More snowboarding videos on SnowboarderMag.com By Evan Lefebvre - Snowboarder Magazine.

Thanks again to everyone who helped make this event possible.
...continued from Post 1/3

Who would've ever thought to combine slamming hot dogs and beer into a contest?....well maybe lots of people, but add in a tricycle relay and instantly it becomes a whole new level. ..especially when the trikes are way too small for anyone to actually ride. Basically in between the carnage, the shouting, and the spitting of hot-dogs I don't think very many people could contain their laughter.

In the end only a few teams made it through without falling off their trikes or trying to cheat in some unusual way. It was more of a show for the spectators than it was a competition, but I couldn't help feeling a little sad that I didn't sign up for this one. Afterwards, everyone made their way to the "circus tent" for a few intense games of Beer Pong sponsored by Snowborad-Mag with their very own collabed ping pong balls before dinner.

After we filled our stomachs once again from the wonderful cooking of Milano's and Jeannie Debari, a quick pre-funk, and a costume change, it was time for the first annual Rocker Party.

Bellingham's own rockers, The All Nighters showed up to kick it off in true Baker style followed by all girl ACDC cover band Helles Belles.
It has been given the title of Legendary, the Party of a Lifetime, the Best Three Days of the Season, (and there was a lot of amazing days this season) the Greatest Industry Party Ever, and I even heard someone say it was better than Christmas. Seeing how Christmas is my favorite holiday I had to think about it for a minute and, well, I definitely had more fun at Kamp K2,. The best part is that I think anyone who was there would sincerely agree with any of those. What can we say? Only a big thank you. Thank you to all of you that were able to attend and make this event what it was. Thank you to all of our friends that helped us to set it up. Thank you to mother nature for the amazing weather. Thank you to everyone that loves snowboarding as much as we do. Thank you to everyone that has ever been a part of the extended K2 family in any way. We couldn’t have done this with out you. For those of you that were not able to make it, we wish you could’ve joined us. It was 3 days of funtastic sweetness.
With over 50 Rv's 375 amazing people from all over the globe, 18" of fresh snow, and 10000 plus alcoholic beverages, and Mount Baker to ourselves, there really is no way we couldn't have a good time.
After a quick dinner from tasty local restaurant Milano's and snowpack update from the Mount Baker staff it was off for night 1 in what would be soon coined as the "circus tent.".
I don't know what it was about camping at the base of Mt.
March 26, 2008 Last week another Last Call went down at Loon Mountain in NH with Eastern Boarder, K2, Oakley, Scion, Skullcandy, Red Bull and Ogio. In it's 8th year and still drawing roughly 100 riders all willing to be tested on new jibs, jumps, and rail gardens set up specifically for the event, Last Call brings New England Spring riding in with a vengeance.

The first feature sessioned was Loons giant hip. Luke Mathison, Tom Peplinski, Bode Merrill and everyone tossed out whatever they could in the one hour jam. Luke and Tom were busting huge 20 footers and were obvious crowd favorites, Colleen Quigley was hitting it hard even with her bruised heels from the Open, but Bode scored himself a nice new $900 Oakley watch for tossing in some more tech tricks and still large airs.

After a BBQ lunch under the Red Bull tent everyone moved on to the 1/4 pipe / hip / giant Loon letters thingamajib. It got pretty interesting watching everyone figure out how to use the letters. Brandon Reis, Big Mike Gonsalves Chris Carr and Bode were all over it. Hand plants , one footers , presses, stalls, and some nasty looking close calls were huge spectator and camera pleasers. Tanner Pendelton was killing himself on a shopping cart perched up on the 1/4 with hand plants and one foot stalls. A few riders tried to figure out the creeper ledges over the hip but after another hour we had to slide on over to the rails and boxes.

Sunny skies and a good assortment of 30' rails mostly over stairs rounded out the day. Austin Grainger, Stu Gingras, Brandon Reis and just about everyone else left standing probably would have hiked that set up for another couple hours the way it was going . All good things must come to an end though and Brandon basically shut it down with a back 3 to 50-50.

The top three men and womens overall riders for the day scored cash and backpacks stuffed with clothing and Skullcandy. For the ladies: 3rd place Jordan Parks took $500 plus prizes, 2nd place Laura Rodowski got $800 and prizes, and Last Call veteran Colleen Quigley snagged $1200 and prizes. Mens 3rd place went to Shaun Murphy $500 and prizes, Chris Carr 2nd place $800 and prizes, and 1st place was handed to Brandon Reis $1200 A new K2 WWW, and a full pack of prizes. Oakley best trick watches also went out to Big Mike on the 1/4 jib, and Brandon Reis on the rails. Loons own park builder and jump, jib destroyer Tom P was sent off on a trip to Kamp K2 at Baker too. Huge thanks to Loon again for another killer set up and sponsors K2, Oakley, Scion, Skullcandy, Red Bull and Ogio.

For More Go To:
www.snowboardermag.com
www.futuresnowboarding.com
Eastern Boarder Blog

During 2 weeks easter holidays K2 snowboarding, K2 Skis and Ride were holding the annual Spring in the Park Camp on Zugspitze, Germany.

Everybody was invited to cruise the perfectly shaped Terrain Park on Germany’s highest Mountain, even though the shapers had to dig out the obstacles almost everyday. This was the snowfall we all were waiting the whole winter long. The three brands had coaches(teamriders) rollin’ a round to give usefull tips and show what tricks are up to date!
Another highlight was the professional photographer, Alex Schneider, who shot about a million photos during the 2 weeks. You can download your high-res photo from www.zugspitze.de/bildergalerie/ for free.

Of course you were able to check out the new 0809 K2 Snowboards and try them in the park or on the slopes…

In order to fullfill the high demand from girls for coaching, the first week was dedicated to girls. They received special welcome packages and female teamriders waited to teach some new moves. Unfortunately our European rider Julia Baumgartner blew out her knee one week before the camp.

Ride and K2 Skis picked two riders for a one year sponsorship during the sponsor-me contest.
The crowd also was fighting for some K2 product during the product toss!

See you next year!
After days of blowing wind, rain, and ice, the sun showed it's face for the US Open 2008 Superpipe Finals at Stratton, Vermont. Girls Practice and Semi Finals started at 8 am before the pipe could even contemplate softening up. After a whirlwind tour across the world Gretchen showed up stomped her first run in semi's to qualify in first place.

Ross Baker was the first rider to go in Men's semi finals and put together a sick first run which gave him a chance to compete in finals with the other top 15 riders of the day. By the time finals started the pipe had softened up a lot on the rider's left hand wall but stayed extremely firm on the right side creating a bit of trouble for many of the competitors. But in the end Gretchen's first run earned her 3rd place next to Torah Bright and Kelly Clark and Ross grabbed 6th place overall.

For more go to:
www.futuresnowboarding.com
www.ttrworldtour.com

Hide your wives and children because the 8th Annual Last Call with Eastern Boarder at Loon Mountain NH is back in town. Wednesday March 26th will be another day to remember. Massholes, flying NH dirts, plus a sprinkling of VT, Maine and random homeless shreds will make the pilgrimage to one of the most laid back huck fests ever to assemble on one trail. Riders are subjected to all the elements that make for a good spectator event too. This year the best overall riders will have to toss out their bag of tricks on a giant hip, a multi feature rail and box setup, a 1/4 pipe, bank, hip, thingama jib, and whatever else we come up with. Last Call is a big a fan of the ladies too. There's always an even split of the purse and prizes. There's $5,000 in cash, A Kamp K2 trip and gear, Oakley best trick prizes, plus Ogio prize bags stuffed with Skull Candy kits, and sponsored gear. Later that night the 21+ crowd gathers at the "local choice beverage joint" where the 10% rule is usually followed through with too.... hint hint. So call in dead for Wednesday and book a room locally that evening. EB and Loon would like to thank our participating sponsors: K2, Oakley, Scion, Skull Candy, Ogio and Red Bull ( can we say Red Bull? ) I guess we just did....and of course a big 8th annual thank you to all of the riders that have come back year after year in support of LAST CALL. See you there.

( Space is limited already for the men... Ladies where the hell are you? get up there and win some money! Check out www.easternboarder.com <http://www.easternboarder.com> for past pics and blurbs.)
High Cascade Snowboard Camp’s Park Doubles in Size!

High Cascade Snowboard Camp has added a second snowboard park this summer up on Timberline. Campers will now get to ride the original HCSC park with updated features as well as The New Park located on the same run used for the Abominable Snow Jam slope-style course. This lift serviced lap park, chock full of jumps, boxes and rails fresh from the fun-factory will effectively double the HCSC snowboard park size for the upcoming summer. Doubled! That’s amazing!

Imagine if everything about camp doubled in size the average camper would be 11 feet tall and weigh 300 lbs., riding 300 cm snowboards and eating Cobra Dogs the size of eggplants. The Bustache’s mustache would be 20 feet wide, the Unicorn Bus’ horn would be 16 feet long and the world’s only 2-tiered dodgeball court would become the world’s only 4-tiered dodgeball court That’d be crazy. Crazy awesome.

HCSC is located on Mt. Hood, Oregon, since 1989 offering world-class facilities and professional coaching in a fun and supportive environment. Check out www.highcascade.com to see awesomeness in its purest form.

MGT Takes over Banff's Mount Norquay

MGT Snowboard Camp infiltrated Banff’s Mount Norquay terrain park this past weekend. The only winter aspect about the camp was that participants were strapped into snowboards, otherwise everything else had elements of a well stocked summer session; the +10c weather, blue sky, outdoor barbeques and tshirt riding. A sold out 45 campers came to ride western Alberta’s best terrain park with our Canadian MGT coaches and special guest Americans Colleen Quigley and Runway Film’s rail wizard; Desiree Melancon. Almost half as many campers had to be turned away to keep the coach to camper ratio manageable. And poor Jacqui Berg was blocked by an expired passport and walked away with a commemorative Utah airport parking receipt rather than an Alberta goggle tan. The luck! The sun spurred quick progression and even the novice park riders were stomping 180s both ways off tables by the time the weekend ended. Enjoy the pictures.

Preceding the Norquay camp was MGT’s 2 BUCK CHUCK All Girl Park Clinic and Slopestyle Contest at Grouse Mountain. 60 female riders arrived for our 5th annual contest series held over the January 5-6 weekend. Mother Nature gave everyone a facewash but in spite of the steady snowstorm, the terrain park crew pushed onward and layed the foundation for campers to sponge every trick in the book from the MGT coaches Leanne Pelosi, Molly Milligan, Robin Van Gyn, Amanda Mourant, and Joanna Majcherkiewicz. Winner, Breanna Stangeland, took home $1150 cash, a giant 2 BUCK CHUCK branded axe and a spot to compete with the crème de la crème of the shred pie at the Burton Abominable Snow Jam in Mt.Hood this summer.

Next up is layering the sunscreen in preparation for the inaugural MGT summer camp sessions at High Cascade Snowboard Camp (Mount Hood, OR) and South America Snow Sessions (Bariloche, Argentina).

Enjoy the rest of the season and thank you for the support.

MGT on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2381534338
MGT on MySpace: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=116572182

Spread the shred,

MGT Crew

Last weekend some of the world's best riders showed up to Northstar-at-Tahoe for the Fourth Annual Van's Cup. It was sunny, spirits were high, and K2 athletes were killing it!

Newly relocated to Tahoe Brandon Reis consistently threw together combo after combo on every feature to take second in the Rail Jam. Although the general consensus of the crowd was that if the contest was judged on style, tricks, and consistency Brandon should have walked away with first. Unfortunately bomb drops are scoring big points these days with the Judges.

Mr. Robbie Walker also came out for the event and in his usual style threw down an amazing run, took third, a day off and then straight back to filming for the Transworld Movie.
Last weekend Snowboy Productions threw another most-enjoyable event.....the 5th installment of the Holy Oly held right here in our very own back yard the always fun Snoqualmie Summit. There was sun, a well-crafted quarter pipe, some jibs, drinking, girls, handplants, close calls, Cobra Dogs, and the steamiest after party EVER! Pretty much everything you could ask for.

Wille came out and took the cup home consistently sending it bigger then all the rest on his signature Turbo Dream shred stick. He was rewarded with a pallet of the Northwest's own Olympia beer which we will be holding for him here at K2 Headquarter's until he makes it back up to Seattle ....or we drink it all, which ever comes first, ahahaha! Best hurry back!

Check out:www.futuresnowboarding.com/2008/02/holy-oly-2008 for some more photos and scripts.

Especially in the Pipe she showed where she’s coming from, fs 5 and 7s…
Julia attacked with a huge ss bs 3 on the kicker and a massive nosegrab over the hip but couldn’t reach Ursina’s highscore.
This is a great success for the European K2 girls and makes Ursina the # 5 in the current TTR ranking!!!

www.ttrworldtour.com

Young ripper from Switzerland Colin Frei (18y) scared the big boys.

Last Saturday the air & style QP contest took place in Innsbruck Austria!

12.000 viewers were going nuts during the event with the world’s larges quarterpipe.

Due to injury of some big names and his good result at the O’Neill Evolution QP event (5th), Colin was nominated for the mainfield in Innsbruck. With his huge McTwist bs grabs he showed no fear of the high class starting field. He stuck the first jump in the finals safely, which made him wanting going bigger. He did but landed on the deck 2 times. Still a great result- 6th rank! Congrats Colin! And Terje just invited him to the arctic challenge…

Robbie Walker takes 4th at Vail Session

It's official, the kid kills everything! He rolls straight out of Tahoe from filming for his part in the Transworld Movie (Fall 08) to claim fourth place and 10 G's (which in America, where the 10% rule is still in effect, that’s 1,000 smackaroos straight to the bar…Robbie) at the Honda Session in Vail, Colorado.

With amazing contest shreds like Norwegians’ Andreas and Torstein Robbie and 42 other of the games best Robbie took no chances in stepping up right away and threw a cab 7 switch back 5 back 7 front 9 in his first run, got a score of 90 out of 100, mellow, and held first place for the rest of the round.

Finals was in controlled jam format (which basically means only one person on the course at a time, but you can go as many times as the clock allows and how fast you could make it back to the start gate) for an hour and a half of 10’s,12’s,14’s (huh?) double corks, fireballs, Dingo and Preston, and over $130,000 on the line. With only 2½ minutes left Robbie stomped his run, a perfect switch back 9 to flawless back 9 to a super stylish cab 9 to seamless front 1080, fourth place and 10,000 ducketts. Not too bad for being in the backcountry all season. Pop out to a resort, throw a sick contest run, win some cash, roll back to the backcountry, get some more shots….mellow.

Results:

1- Andreas Wiig NOR Nitro, Vans
2- Torstein Horgmo NOR DC, Oakley
3- Chas Guldemond USA DC, Electric
4- Robbie Walker AUS K2
5- Lonnie Kauk USA DC

For more info go to: www.sessionvail.com
